Niagara Falls

Niagara Falls in the winter!

These photos are from a recent trip to Niagara Falls - I was not expecting the amount of snow and ice! As you will see, the bottom of the falls had almost frozen over! Still, it all gave a very magical feel to the place.

The falls themselves are amazing. The sheer volume of water is incredible. They have actually had to install a dam to reduce the flow of water as it was causing far too much erosion. Apparently they can also stop the flow of water entirely if they want to - that would be amazing to see!!

We had hired a car for the weekend, so we ended up driving around the nearby countryside which just happens to be full of wineries!! We weren't sure if they would be open but to our pleasure, we found that they were all open for tasting! So we did!

We stayed on the Canadian side of the falls and our hotel room had the most incredible view - straight down to the horseshoe falls! I can really see why they say that they are better to see from the Canadian side, rather than the American side.

Every night they have a light show on the Falls - these are taken from our hotel room

Brooklyn Bridge

The day after Gayle and Doreen arrived, we took advantage of the beautiful sunshine and walked over Brooklyn Bridge.

We wandered around Brooklyn for awhile afterwards and planned to get a ferry back over to Manhattan, only to find out that they don't run where we were during the winter! We had only waited for around an hour!!
